Technology: Year 8 Testing and trialling enterprise ideas

This week the Year 8's have been testing and trialling their ideas for their enterprise project

raro ice blocks- all the flavours

then we tested them

we tried milk ice blocks with chocolate syrup

smores- we melted these in the oven

cookies for ice cream and cookies- we had no idea how to portion the runny mixture so we spread it on a tray and cut it, when cooked, but using eggs made the cookie too soft- next time we will use a recipe without eggs- this might keep the cost/s down too

we tried cereal bars- as we know that they sell well in school

toffee apples- we burnt the toffee or it didn't set

so we will try another idea next week

cup cakes were easy

and successful

snow cones needed a lot of syrup to flavour it- this would raise the cost/s and we would lose profit

edible glitter was cheap to make and would make cupcakes look pretty

pizza is always a winner- we costed that for every pizza made/sold we would make $6.00 profit

we tried waffles but had no waffle maker

they tasted good but looked like panikeke

churros

deep fry them

shake with sugar and cinnamon

enjoy- yum

we evaluated our outcome testing

thinking hats helped guide our thinking

next week we will continue to cost/test and evaluate our recipes for viability

Technology: Year 7 Designing and analysing our games

This week the Year 7's have been designing math games for the New Entrant and Year 1 students

the key to success was to communicate ideas effectively

four designs were needed, the designs would hopefully focus on numbers, words and values to help our younger students learn math through play

some of the designs included games for ordering numbers, skip counting, one more, one less ....

we used thinking hats to analyse our designs

our Samoan bilingual class included the Samoan language in their designs

next week we will choose the most successful ideas and make and test our prototype

Technology: Year 8 Enterprise

Our Year 8's have started their final project..

To collaborate using their technological skills in an enterprise initiative linked to the syndicate theme of service

This week we got into groups and wrote as many ideas down as possible

we had to brainstorm

we had to collaborate

some of us did some research

we looked at potential costs

we asked some great questions- what is our budget?, do we have the correct equipment? can we...? what happens if we don't make any money?

next week we are testing and trialling some initial ideas for viability

Technology: Year 7- Analysing existing outcomes

This week our Year 7's started their new project

They will be designing math games for our New entrant/Year 1 students

To understand the needs of the stakeholders we have played some maths games

adding numbers to make teens

dominoes

sequencing

bingo

one less

number bonds to 10 and 20

Then we analysed the games using thinking hats to guide our analysis

The red hat is for first impressions

The yellow hat is for positive aspects of the game/design

The black hat is for negative aspects of the game/design

The white hat is factual- how/what it is made from

The green hat is for us to suggest improvements

We left the blue hat- this is the boss- this will come into play once we start designing and collaborating
