Specialist technology: Gifted and Talented; Make our hall a space we can be proud of; Part 4

This week our gifted and talented group have been researching our next steps  Most of the staples and displays have been removed so what do we need to do next?

We have holes- so we researched how to fill holes in walls?

'You tube' has really helped us!

and has given us an idea of materials and equipment needed.

Then we went to the hall to finish off....

removing display boards....

carefully removing precious displays...

leaving our walls ready for the next stages..

Then we began writing up a flow chart,

stating each stage, washing the walls, filling the holes and sanding;
this all need to happen before we paint..

we listed the materials we need, equipment we will use to help us
and any health and safety information we need to consider to keep us safe.

Tune in next week...

Specialist technology: Gifted and Talented; Make our hall a space we can be proud of; Part 3

This week we have been busy removing the rest of the staples we can reach.

We were busy but achieved a lot..

it is hard work

but we have developed techniques that work

so we worked

and worked

very hard..

We then discussed next steps...

remove the the display boards and any last few staples, posters or displays

filling in the holes and preparing the walls for painting

we need to do some research next week to make sure we have a clear way forward..

Specialist Technology: Cultural Cooking; Kale moa

This week we have been learning more about how Samoan's have embraced food from another culture- kale moa (curry)

Samoans have made this dish their own by adding coconut milk- yet again any meat (protein) and veggies are acceptable.

We focused on further developing our making skills by using knives, peelers and stoves.

prepare the veggies- onions, garlic, ginger, potatoes and carrots by peeling and chopping them

process them how you wish

cut the chicken into pieces- be careful to wash your hands afterwards

fry it all in a pot with some curry powder and oil

add coconut milk leave to cook- until the veggies are soft

thicken with 6 tblsp of flour and season

stir until thickened

serve with rice

Specialist technology: Gifted and Talented; Make our hall a space we can be proud of; Part 2

Last week our gifted and talented students gathered their questions together in preparation to meet with Mr Naidoo

the meeting went well and we raised many points with him

Mr Naidoo was very helpful and able to answer most of our questions.. we left having a clear idea of how to move forward..

This week we started to prepare the hall.. we have permission to remove staples..

we soon realised that hard work is hard work..

but we perservered

and developed techniques
which allowed us to become quite good at removing the staples

we also started to carefully remove displays

we worked together well

and achieved a lot

Next week we will do more of the same.. until all the staples are removed..

Specialist Technology: Cultural cooking; Sapasui

This week we have been making sapsui..
our students have really enjoyed making it to their tastes

soak the noodles in water

prepare the onions, garlic and ginger

process your meat- steak..

or maybe chicken

when the noodles are soft..

you can cut them

fry the onions, garlic ginger, meat and vegetables;
then add the soy, noodles and water;
stir thoroughly, put a lid on and turn down low..

then season and serve...

Specialist Technology: Gifted and Talented; Make the hall a space we are proud of- Part 1

We have begun our Gifted and Talented Specialist Technology learning this week.

We have a big job... fix the hall..make it a space we can be proud of..

we have some nice things in our hall.. but not enough of them..

first we have to visit the hall and check it our.. are the curtains ok?

lots of staples, bits of paper, screens that are not used....do we keep them or take them down?

student work..does it stay or go?

wires going from one side of the room to another...do we leave them?

we wrote down our findings and went back to class..

Staples- take the staples out
Signage- get permission to take the signs off
           - take off the least important ones

Displays-get permission to take off the displays
           - take off the old displays
           -create new displays

Broken windows fixings-get permission to fix them

Display boards-decorate -take them off
                     -covering -ask others for inspiration
                -create removable ones

we wrote down the issues  and then worked in groups to come up with possible solutions

we did this on google docs so we could share our findings with everyone

we worked out who the stakeholders for the hall were

we have to consider all the needs of these people and what they would want from the space

then we wrote emails to Mr Naidoo inviting him to meet with us.. we had to learn how to write a formal email

Dear Mr Naidoo, Principal of Robertson Road School

Room 30 would like to ask you if you could meet us at 12:00pm Friday the 4th of August at the tech room. This meeting will be about the hall.

Yours sincerely
Tau , J.T. and Azriel.

Hopefully he can meet with us and we can ask him what his priorities are

we had to work together, with people we had never worked with before and think about things that would make our hall a beautiful space and something to be proud of..

we are going to be busy!
